We left Bowen & ended up at Ravenswood for the night, not Charters Towers.
It is a pretty much deserted mining town with heaps of old mining stuff lying around everywhere.
We spent the night parked in the paddock behind the pub & ate dinner at the pub.
I loved everything about this place except the billlions of prickles that grew everywhere.
We had reason to use our gas heater last night as it was quite cold, in fact the coldest June 1st day ever recorded. We were warm & cosy & the following day was perfect, a clea,r wind free, warm winters day right out of a tourist brochure.
Today we have ended up at Charters Towers, a couple of hours inland from Townsville. I love it here too, I think I just love the inland. We are here for at least 3 nights as Wendy & Greg are having a problem with their suspension, that needs to be sorted out. I couldn't think of a better place to be stuck.
Leaving Bowen, Hills, cane fields, mango trees & blue skies.
Main street Home hill.
A really cool, long steel bridge between Home Hill & Ayr.
Morning tea under the trees at Ayr.
Memorial park, Ayr.
A slow walking tour of Ayr, ( Due to Yvonnes' sore foot )
The first crocodile we have seen on this trip was made of brass.
So was the first snake.
I call this 'blood fountain' in the main street of Ayr.
More of the endless sugar cane.
And mango trees.
Lunch stop at a rest area on the way to Ravenswood.
There were lots of these imported old cars from the USA. The publican is bringing them into the country to re condition. Besides the ones all around the pub, he has another 129 coming in.
Camped behind here last night.
The other pub in town & not much else.
Wendy & Sue dressed for dinner.
One of many old chimneys around the mine sites.
Tin goats on a muloch heap.
A morning hobble.
A train carriage that's not going far.
Trendy shot, chimney & moon.
Old mine battery.
Pano.
Another pano.
There are many of these old chimneys & mining equipment scattered everywhere.
View of town area of Carters Towers, from Towers Hill.
As above.
An old collapsed gold mine chimneys on towers hill.
I think this is why it's called Towers Hill.
A rock wallaby we met on Towers Hill.
One of many war time bunkers on Towers Hill.
A very relaxing afternoons entertainment at the camp kitchen at tonights camp.
